These animals suffer enormously, and something has to be done about this soon. If you have the time, I urge you to sign the petition and make a difference. Thank you.

I have added a fan section which will include art and fiction, if and when people create any. There is one story there already, Behold My Heart by Brittney, featuring our much beloved Max California. If you have made any art, or written any fanfiction, click here and find out how to share it with us all.

28TH SEPTEMBER
Old interview from September 2002, "The 911 Call Was Played On The Radio", donated by Christy. From the look of the original, it was a German article translated by someone whose English is not that brilliant. I've tried to make sense of what I can, but some of it might still sound a bit weird...

23RD SEPTEMBER
At long last I've managed to upload the It's All About Love trailer, although I am still no closer to understanding what the film is actually all about. Have also created new info pages for The Woods and Walk The Line.

22ND SEPTEMBER
Tiffany has made a new animated button for the site. Also, I've finally finished the transcript from JP's Conan O'Brien appearance in July.

21ST SEPTEMBER
For those who have not yet realised, there is a new poll. Participate.

7TH SEPTEMBER
Two more new desktops (both 800x600) created by Debbie & Owen.

4TH SEPTEMBER
Two new desktops (both 800x600) created by Debbie & Owen. Also, a lost picture from the November 1995 issue of Premiere, donated by Khukuri.

25TH AUGUST
Two new photos from the Buffalo Soldiers premiere in New York, donated by Pilar.

24TH AUGUST
Sorry about the lack of updates, but I have just spent a considerable amount of time in the Spanish desert, where computers are a bit thin on the ground. However, I have stuff and it will be on its way very soon. Watch this space...

31ST JULY
New interview, Order Of The Phoenix, from the September issue of Total Film. Also a mini-article about Buffalo Soldiers' journey to our screens, plus a review of the film. Thanks to Bethany for all of the above.

28TH JULY (LATER THAT DAY...)
Sound file of Joaquin's Conan interview, created and sent by Tiffany, our star in residence.

28TH JULY
For those of you who missed the show and cannot be bothered to download the sound file, I have made a transcript of the Letterman interview. Also, Jessica has sent a new interview, "The Women Aren't Exactly Queuing Up..." from More magazine.

27TH JULY
Thanks to the wonderful Tiffany, we now have a sound file of Joaquin's Letterman interview. Hoorah! Also, two new pictures, one from Friday's Buffalo Soldiers premiere in New York and one of Joaq on the cover of Time Out.

25TH JULY
Weird little article about Buffalo Soldiers, Here Comes Mr. Jordan; Hide Your Yellow Ribbons, from the New York Times site. Thanks to Rajdeep for sending that in.

21ST JULY
New interview, You Must Be Joaquin, and two Buffalo Soldiers reviews (one/two), all sent by Kat. Also, three wee articles about The Woods (one/two/three). Thanks to Tiffany for the info.

20TH JULY
New JP wallpaper [800x600/1024x768] designed by Ally. Also, another glowing Buffalo Soldiers review, claiming Joaq's performance is brilliant. Now if only they'd show the film outside London we would be able to agree...

13TH JULY
Word-for-word transcription of the 2000 Jay Leno interview that I made a long time ago and have only just found.

12TH JULY
Have translated a French JP interview and found Signs: The Abridged Script by Rod Hilton. It's a parody of the film and it's meant in fun, so don't be too offended! Also, thanks to Pilar, we know that on July 23 Joaquin will be on David Letterman (CBS), and on July 24 he will appear on both Conan O'Brien (NBC) and Regis & Kelly (ABC). Anyone who doesn't live in the US will just have to curse.

10TH JULY
Four new Buffalo Soldiers screencaps donated by Pilar.

7TH JULY
New Joaquin picture donated by Tiffany.

5TH JULY
Oh, the joy! Buffalo Soldiers has finally got a release date, and it's July 18. That's less than two weeks away, so prepare for more Joaquin on your screen very soon. Also, thanks to Empire's August 2003 issue, we have a new Buffalo Soldiers review and an article, Missing In Action, which attempts to explain why the film has taken so long to get released.

28TH JUNE
New Joaquin quotes sent by Pilar:

"I just have high expectations. Every time I see a movie I'm in, I go, 'Fuck it! That scene was supposed to be good, and it's terrible.'"

"This is my problem with interviews and with quotes! I don't think there is a person on this fucking planet that you can define with one sentence. Not with one fucking interview! Not with a hundred fucking interviews! 'Cause we don't know what we are! Sometimes I don't even know who I am, what's my nature!"

18TH JUNE
Two new Joaquin quotes, both sent by Holly:

"Acting out a love scene is never easy, but Kate [Winslet] guided me through it. I think she was nervous, but didn't show it. I was scared, but she led me like a little lamb, even though the scene wasn't meant to be gentle. She's a great actress."

"Of course, me, the troublemaker, I started up this go-cart. You stand behind it and pull the thing. The clutch was all the way down, and it took off. It went down the street, and it literally killed every mailbox. Boom. People came out of their houses in their pajamas. I think I ruined the go-cart."

12TH JUNE
New Ladder 49 stuff sent by raven: an article from Entertainment Tonight, Phoenix Fans the Flames; and an audio clip of JP talking about his firefighter training. Also some new Ladder 49 pics donated by Paola.

10TH JUNE
The site is in French! Yes, my dears, through much adversity and toil we have managed to make a French Version of JP:ITF. So, if you speak French (and even if you don't, for that matter) it's there for your perusal.

9TH JUNE
Mini article, Shyamalan Is Lost In The Woods, that has been sitting around for a couple of weeks waiting to be uploaded. Shame on me. I've also finally managed to upload the tiny Brother Bear preview and the considerably cool Buffalo Soldiers trailer. Finally, new Joaquin quote donated by Pilar:

"I don't really think I had really been aware of the fame that my brother had acquired, because he never carried himself as such. Our television at home had only one channel, and it was PBS. I never saw premiers, never watched Entertainment Tonight, any of that. So his celebrity was another world, And when that world was suddenly brought to our doorstep, I think it just rocked me. You just want to go through your own process of acceptance, or understanding — if there is any — without any other influences. Through all that I hadn't seen much that was positive. I mean there certainly was an outpouring of love from a lot of people, but more than anything, there was a lot of ugliness."

28TH MAY
Couple of new Joaquin quotes from the German magazine Stern, translated and sent in by Christina:

"They do everything for you, they even brush your teeth. I don't need that. I feel fine when I can shoot. Shooting can be quite exhausting but then comes the moment where you know how it works. Like a electric shock."

"The isolation was important for my role [in Buffalo Soldiers]. The soldiers somehow lived in their own world, too. When we didn't shoot, there was only the hotel. There was also a falafel snack bar just round the corner. I am a vegetarian you know, and I thought it would be difficult [in Germany]. But falafel, yes, mmm..."

23RD MAY
Two new articles donated by Andrew: M. Night Shyamalan to Direct The Woods from comingsoon.net and Joaquin's Peace Sign Furor from WENN.

16TH MAY
New It's All About Love pics donated by Paola; new Buffalo Soldiers pic, Ladder 49 images and snapshot of JP and friend out and about, all donated by Pilar.

10TH MAY
Pictures from People (September 1998), Details (April 2001), and other varied publications, all donated by meza. New Brother Bear images donated by Paola, who also directed me to the movie's plot and trailer, which you can download here: Quicktime; Windows Media; Real Player.

8TH MAY
New quote donated by Pilar:

"I go into movies thinking, we're performing, but with interviews, we're pretending to be completely real. I just can't get my head around it. And the things we say in this hour could permanently shape our personas. I mean, tell me that's not a little odd! And because I think that's odd, people think I'm odd. And that's strange. Know what I'm saying?"

6TH MAY
New pics: Joaq & his habit at the IAAL Press Conference and Joaq and a railing, donated by Meza and Paola respectively. Thanks guys!

30TH APRIL
Raven and Ailsa have both told me about the presence of a Buffalo Soldiers trailer, but at the moment I am unable to upload it to my server. Until such time as I can, you can find the trailer here, thanks to the lovely people at apple.

29TH APRIL
Have edited the silly mistakes I made when typing the article Good People Doing Bad Things. Many thanks to the author, Nick Dagan Best, for informing me of the errors and for letting me keep his article on JP:ITF! If you liked that article you might also want to check out his astrology/arts column.

26TH APRIL
New Buffalo Soldiers picture and article, both donated by Raven.

21ST APRIL
New Ladder 49 pic donated by Molly.

14TH APRIL
Another new Joaq quote, this one donated by Christy:

"Forget the Oscar nomination [for Gladiator]. The real pinnacle is that I'm playing an animated character in a Disney film. Isn't that the greatest? I play a native American transformed into a bear. Don't call me a leading man. I don't care about that. I'm a leading bear. I am content!"

7TH APRIL
Found some Ladder 49 pics lurking on a floppy disk — thanks to Jenny for those. Megan and Amber both sent me a tiny wee article from People Weekly, and there are, as ever, more new Joaq quotes donated by Pilar:

"People say, 'You've got everything going for you! You can do anything you want!' But I get nervous. I'm confident that I'll work, but I hope it's something to me. Sometimes I feel like I'm behind and running out of time as it is. There's still more for me to do."

"When I first heard about [To Die For], I thought, what a terrible idea — a teacher seduces this kid and he kills her husband? That's awful. About a month later my agent calls me back and says, 'Read the script!' And I was like, 'Joaq — what are you doing? You've ruined it.' I drove up to New York, went in for an audition with Gus, and that was it."

"The part I love about this job is the acting itself. Obvious, I know. But there are those brief moments when you actually tap into something. And for about thirty seconds, you almost feel invincible."

5TH APRIL
A few more Ladder 49 shots, sent in by Pilar.

2ND APRIL
Some great shots of JP from a BlackBook photo shoot for its March/April 2003 issue; many thanks to Megan for scanning and sending those. Also, Andrew has sent me a script review of Ladder 49, but beware! — it ain't nice to our Joaq...

31ST MARCH
These from Andrew: a video clip of Joaquin training for Ladder 49 at the Baltimore Fire Academy; and a pic of him banging a drum with a Celtic rock band. Also, some amazing pics of Joaquin as a youngster, JP with River, and with the whole Phoenix family. Endless thanks to Pilar for those.

27TH MARCH
New affiliate: Joaquin Phoenix Unlimited.

23RD MARCH
Some more words of wisdom from Mr. Phoenix, sent in by Julie:

"I really hate when people put that label on a film, that it's 'dark.' I don't know what that means. What people call dark, to me actually makes it more interesting."

"Aren't firemen beautiful? Every time I see a fire-truck or ambulance drive by I blow them a kiss. I think what they're doing is so beautiful."

22ND MARCH
Found a few things in the wonderful world of the web. Pics: new screencaps from Brother Bear, Buffalo Soldiers and Ladder 49. Snippets about: Joaq & River; Superboy dreams; Voltage; Mel's pranks; Joaq's fear of Signs; and Johnny Cash movies. Movie news: updates on Brother Bear; Ladder 49; and It's All About Love (official site here). Other stuff: two Signs reviews [one / two]; an article from firehouse.com about the filming of Ladder 49; the Signs script from movie-page.com; and these quotes:

"We didn't set out saying, 'We're going to be actors'. But it was pretty apparent that there was talent in the family."

"I'm proud of my brother. I would never not want to be associated with him."

"I look great there." [He is gently told that the photograph is, in fact, of actor-director Ed Burns.] "Oh, that's not me? I was going to say...I'm good-looking."

"When you become satisfied, you stop fighting, and I like fighting. "It means that I'm constantly progressing and evolving. I'm never satisfied, and hopefully, I never will be."

Thanks to Pilar for the quotes, and to Raven for the script and the Johnny Cash article.

17TH MARCH
Transcribed My Gladiator Journal (the on-set diary of Spencer Treat Clark, who played Lucius), from the Gladiator Special Edition DVD.

16TH MARCH
Happy birthday, JP:ITF! We're two today!

15TH MARCH
Been digging around on my hard drive, and found some pics that have been sitting for a very long time in a folder marked "update". Stupid self. Anyway, here they are: shot from Vanity Fair; family pic of the Phoenix siblings; two random pics (Joaq leaning & Joaq with a tree); three photos from the 2001 Hannibal premiere; Joaq caught out on the town for Matt Damon's birthday; and a series of screenshots from Joaq's MTV broadcast at Cannes. Whew! Also, an article from People.com about a possible new movie for Joaquin; thanks to Jenny for sending it to me.

10TH MARCH
More new quotes, all from the mouth of Mr. Phoenix. The first donated by Emma, the other three donated by Pilar. Thanks, guys!

"In my life, I try to find the finest qualities in people, regardless of what they look like."

"I look down at the face of the scale and it's like, YOU LIAR!"

"I've heard stuff about how the night River died he was partying and all that — it's so untrue. That night we were together. He was just playing guitar. He wanted to show me a new song. And...I wanted to go out to see Flea play, because I'd never seen him play before. River wanted to go home, just hang out, play guitar. I was the one who wanted to go out and he was just making sure to take care of me. But some guy who claims he was best friends with River comes out — I don't know who the fuck he is, neither does anyone else — claiming all this bullshit. That is why I've been reluctant to share anything."

"It's tragic, because part of me wants to open up. I mean, there are things that I'd love to clear up. But at the same time, the more I state that publicly that can be taken, used and distorted, the more I add to my family's grief and my own grief."

9TH MARCH
Check out the new link to Phoenix Clan, a site about all the lovely Phoenixes.

8TH MARCH
The lovely Jenny of JWD has provided an 800x600 version of her new wallpaper. Also, another Vince Vaughn quote donated by Pilar:

I think we genuinely like each other. Acting means a lot to him, and I respect that, because it means a lot to me."

Finally, some nice black-and-white photos donated by Emma, the self-style shaved hamster aficionado. Thanks to you all!

2ND MARCH
New wallpaper [1024x768] courtesy of Jenny at JWD. Ta, chuck.

25TH FEBRUARY
Little article I found whilst browsing some veggie sites, about Joaquin's campaign against fur. Also has a picture.

23RD FEBRUARY
First off, new affiliate: Much More Mariah, by the wonderful Megan. Also, two more quotes, both from Vince Vaughn, sent by Pilar:

"I've been more real to people I've met one or two nights on a train than I have with friends I've had in my life for years. Although it's been a short time, I really have a fondness for Joaquin."

"Totally cool, great actor. We get in a lot of trouble hanging out."

18TH FEBRUARY
Yet more quotes sent by the ever-vigilant Pilar, to whom I'm very soon going to have to send chocolate :P The last one is from Casey Affleck; the rest are all Joaquin.

"We all had active imaginations and since we were little we would act out in performances. But later I got tired so I left it. Then I came back and left it again. When I turned 17 I asked myself what most people ask themselves: 'What am I doing with my life?' I was older, I wanted to find myself and find something I liked doing. I remember feeling like something was missing, there was a void. I started thinking that void could be filled by performing. I came to New York and started actively auditioning to find employment."

"If you just made a movie about a guy that walked around a lot, talked to friends and played on the computer, that would be me."

"I grew up nervous."

"I never think that I'm good at anything I do. I can always do it better, I know my weakness. I've never been perfect."

"It's a strange sense of humour. He has a very goofy side. You wouldn't expect it if you've seen his movies. Joaquin hasn't picked safe parts. They show the dark side, and you could think he's crazy, but the4 fact is he's just incredibly talented. He's one of the most exciting actors of our generation — and I would say that even if he wasn't my best friend and I didn't live with his sister."

Thank you Pilar, we love you!

6TH FEBRUARY
New affiliate: Joaquin Phoenix by Madeleine. Go see!

31ST JANUARY
Some fantastic high-quality pics from It's All About Love, found and donated by the wonderful Sara. Also, some shots of Joaquin from the Toronto Film Festival, and a couple of black-and-white pics from Clay Pigeons - thanks to Eib again for those. And lastly (but definitely not, uh, leastly), a big hurrah! We've finally got the infamous "shaved hamster" quote in its entirety! Many thanks and much hugs to Emma for sending us this:

"I'm inherently a blubbering slob, I'm like a shaved hamster. So what? I don't need to become a famous star. My work as an actor is forever and that is what inspires me. The fame that goes with it isn't important. I hate the pressure to have to look constantly good!"

15TH JANUARY
Two new bits of news, A Rung Up The Ladder and Travolta On Fire, about Joaq's newest movie, Ladder 49. Also, a couple of new photos donated by Eib: this little running shot from Signs; and this shot of Mr Phoenix indulging in a bit of the ol' baccy. Cheers, Eib.

6TH JANUARY
And the speech just keeps on coming... Thanks again to Pilar for all of the following; the first two are both quotes from Joaq's agent, Iris Burton.

"River used to say to me, 'Joaquin's better than all of us.'"

"Honey, he's always in love. He's in love with love. He needs so much love. Sometimes he gets hurt."

"I have been trying to reinvent myself as Bob Vila. I've been doing some homework. I now have this pulley system. I didn't want everything on the ground, so I decided to hang these, like, candles and plants. I think I may have overdone it. Now it's beginning to look like a torture chamber. It's like Hellraiser — chains swinging.

"I don't think I am [a typical man]. I think I was raised where I was encouraged to express myself. I think acting came out of that. In that sense, I think I was raised somewhat unconventionally. I think that was encouraged. And I think my girlfriend likes it. I think I'm comfortable talking about things that men typically wouldn't."

"The Oscars, to me, was a recognition of my work, and in a way it was saying, 'You're not alone.'"

"I think you have multiple extended families, and I'll always feel close to people I work with. I think that's when I work best. It's important to feel safe."

"I didn't realise 'til much later when journalists told me that I wasn't normal that I didn't have a 'normal' upbringing. I was like, 'Oh really?' It was news to me."

"The press has just gone out of their way to insist that every day, in addition to brushing my teeth and taking a shower, I bang my head against the wall in preparation. Which is just odd, because one day on The Yards and another on Return To Paradise, I had some tense, emotional scenes, and you're standing around with people drinking coffee and saying, 'Did you see the game last night?' So you're thinking, 'How the fuck do I get into this (heavy) place, right?' So I do something extreme, but suddenly that defines me, and it's totally inaccurate, because that's one moment. And they cut out the rest."

"We always have angels in our lives — people who became friends and are to this day."

1ST JANUARY 2003
Not an update, but happy new year to all the Phoenix fans out there, and especially to the man himself. May it be a good one for all of you. Mwah.

24TH DECEMBER
More new quotes because apparently Joaquin just can't stop talking. This from Lolita Mainelle:

"I don't really go for a particular 'type' [of girl] although I find that in the past I've tended to go for dark haired girls. There's something very mysterious and aloof about them. I also love the British accent, it's sexy."

And this from Eliza:

Why are you so hard on yourself? Do you like anything you do? "I brush my teeth very well. Do I like anything that I do? I think like is the wrong word."

Thanks, guys!

19TH DECEMBER
Yet another new quote donated by Pilar:

"What I really hate doing is TV: twelve interviews in an hour pretending to be Oh-So-Fresh, which I'm not."

I'm starting to wonder if she's got Joaquin tied up in a basement somewhere, forcing him to produce endless soundbites. In which case....go her ;)

15TH DECEMBER
New affiliate, the wonderful CaseyAffleck.net. Also, three new quotes sent by Pilar Cooke:

Phoenix hasn't eaten meat or dairy since age 3. Well maybe he slipped, Gibson says he made Phoenix a milkshake on the Signs set — and Joaquin loved it. "He didn't realize I put eggs in..." says Gibson with a devilish chuckle. (from US Weekly)

"I don't have the slightest desire to speak over my dead brother. It gets on my nerves to always be compared with him. My brother was a magnificent person and an outstanding actor."

"This 911 call was sent in the radio and television. It was terrible. They photographed hin in his coffin. And these hysterical girls who were at the funeral almost fell into the grave. Repulsive. It was a long time before I overcame this shock."

4TH DECEMBER
New portrait from the October issue of Marie Claire. Thanks to Dragonnade.

25TH NOVEMBER
Four more new photos from Buffalo Soldiers, including the German film poster (for which the movie is titled Army Go Home), all donated by Kirsten. Cheers, hon!

13TH NOVEMBER
There has been a delay since the last update, but unfortunately this will be the way of things until a better system is devised that doesn't involve me running up and down four flights of stairs three times a day, switching files between three different computers and battling with the Netscape mail program. So. Things to see and do: new pics from Buffalo Soldiers, sent in by the lovely Kirsten, who runs this amazing Russell Crowe site. Also, thanks to Martina we now have a preview of what the Signs DVD cover will look like. New quotes, two from the German version of In Style magazine, sent by Pilar Cooke:

"To be honest, I didn't know what I was doing [modelling for Prada]. I just wanted to show another side of me. A little trick for my career because at that time I only got juvenile outsider roles. The moment my suit and hair gel pictures were published I was really offered more mature characters."

Q: Accounts say you hit your head against the walls or lock yourself up for hours to prepare for a scene...
JP: Lock myself up? [grinning] Who says that? At best I hide to concentrate. But it's true. Sometimes I'm obsessed and a little difficult to handle."

And this humorous little quote from Rachel's cousin Elizabeth:

"Poor little Max went to space and when he came back he became a porno dealer..."

Elsewhere, there are many new Keepers and many people passing the quiz. A note on the quiz, though: if you don't see your name up in the hall of fame, please be patient because, as I said, I'm having problems with updating. You will be up there eventually, but please don't submit your name fifteen times in the hope that it'll make some kind of difference because it won't. Thank you.

20TH OCTOBER
First of all, I have to apologise. Since moving halfway across the country in order to go to university, I have had infinite problems with my internet connection, which has resulted in a serious lack of updates. Believe me, it's been as annoying for me as it has been for you, but I have found a temporary solution that, whilst awkward and far from perfect, will get things going again around here. Hoorah. Anyway, to kickstart the celebrations, here are some pictures of little Joaquin in Backwards: The Riddle Of Dyslexia, one of his early television appearances, and an image of Joaquin's cartoon character from the Disney movie, Bears. Also, two new quotes donated by Cassie:

"It's been a year since last time I tried (to give up smoking). I went to a hypnotist; we sat down and started talking. A couple of hours later, I woke up; the hypnotist wasn't in the room, but his wife was. I was like 'Oh my goodness, I fell asleep and didn't get to talk to the doctor.' And she said 'Don't worry, you talked...' I freaked out, left their place, immediately bought a pack of cigarettes and smoked, terrified of what I'd said."

"I don't think there's anything interesting worth printing about me."

25TH SEPTEMBER (LATER THAT DAY)
Small article, Unleashing Hell?, about the possibility of a sequel to Gladiator. Also, a couple of new quotes. This from the PETA website, found and sent by Jenny:

"I think you're a fucking asshole if you wear fur. It's ridiculous! There's no need for real fur — since there are compassionatealternatives. And furs are ugly in general, be they synthetic or real. Don't tell me it's about warmth, because people who wear furs wouldn't be caught dead in big down coats."

And all the following from Pilar Cooke.

Q: Is it easy for you to go in front of the camera?
JP: No. I'm vomiting days before I start shooting a new movie.

"I didn't let myself enjoy [the Oscar nomination] and have fun with it. I felt like Miss America, I started weeping. An Oscar-nomination; it's the thing."

"I'm still...it's very difficult to talk about it because when you lose something, someone, it's such a great loss, you try and hold onto anything that you have, and memories that you have, and what was so difficult and what scarred me for a long time was when those memories were robbed from me. I wasn't allowed to experience them on my own time. Other people took advantage of their access to me, and suddenly my memories were distorted and changed. So it's very difficult, it's hard for me to talk about it now. When you lose someone, you need to go through a really long period to try and understand what's happened and to feel that loss in your own way. It's more difficult if it's a public death because it's going to take you that much longer to try and understand what's happened. So I dont think I can really share it with you."

Thanks guys!

20TH SEPTEMBER (LATER THAT DAY)
Two new wallpapers by Jenny, in 800x600 and 1024x768. Go, look, use, praise.

9TH SEPTEMBER
New wallpaper, courtesy of attraction a.d. Also, this is a shout out to LONI ROBERTS, should she happen to visit this page. For the love of all that is sweet and good, will you send me your address? webmistress[at]joaquin-phoenix.net. Thank you.

5TH SEPTEMBER
Several more new signed pics, and another random photo from some unnamed magazine or other. Thanks to Britt for all of those.

4TH SEPTEMBER
Many thanks to Britt for the following pictures: three new signed photos; one of those For Your Consideration posters from the Gladiator Oscar extravagaza; a magazine cover from the Evening Standard Hot Tickets; photo pages from L'Uomo, originally scanned by akvc; and a lovely-looking headshot-type photo from some anonymous publication. Again, hugs to Britt for all of those.

2ND SEPTEMBER (LATER THAT DAY)
New picture of Joaquin on his tod at the Signs premiere in New York on July 29.

2ND SEPTEMBER
Small article from Variety, Special Report: Eye On The Oscars, about JP's award-worthiness last year, and a teeny snippet thing on a fire at Casey Affleck's apartment. Thanks to Sarahvma for those. Also, many many new quotes. This from Felicia:

"I'm not the indie kid, and I'm also not the John Grisham novel hero, but I am all of those things. I do whatever excites me at the time. I'll be in some huge $80 million buddy cop movie, I don't care, and I'll also do some wild independent movie. I refuse to have an agenda."

Donated by Keely:

"[Merrill Hess] is the kind of guy who would have beaten me up in school for eating tofu."

And these sent by Pilar Cooke:

"I always think its odd that someone goes out there in front of all these people and tells really stupid stories that no one cares about. I know I'm uncomfortable and really awkward out there. But the people who seem too comfortable — man, they are weird! I mean, what kind of person are you that you feel really comfortable with people watchingand applauding you? I fear enjoying that. Is that weird?"

"I hate talking about my movies. Why does anyone think I know what the they're about?"

"Believe me, it's hard to find a woman who will walk up to you and say, 'I find you really attractive'. It doesn't happen very often. But if you meet anybody who likes me, please say hi and thanks."

"I was on this one flight and I got so nervous that I started shaking and banging my head against the wall and going, 'Oh God! Oh my God!' and making all the other passengers extremely nervous. In the end, the captain had to come out and hold me down and he told me to shut the f**k up and to calm down. It was pretty bad, but it did calm me down."

(Do you want to get married and have kids?) "Yeah, sure, at some point. I don't think I'm quite ready for all that yet."

I said I would do it and I have. Behold, my children: the messageboard has arrived. Go, post, love. I want countless thoughts from Joaquinites worldwide. Please. (Note: In future you can get to the messageboard by clicking on the old guestbook link on the far right of the navigation buttons. This will now open up a new window from which you can access both the guestbook and messageboard.)

24TH AUGUST
Snippety-type article from Fox News Channel, where JP's awkwardness in talking about himself is misconstrued as arrogant weirdness by yet another stupid journalist. Very positive Buffalo Solidiers review from UK publication The Scotsman, and a Joaquin Phoenix interview from the Copley News Service. Thanks to Sarahvma for the heads up on all of those. Also, Sarah has donated those pictures from the August 2002 issue of Premiere magazine, and I have found a report on JP from the Edinburgh Film Festival, called Flight Of The Phoenix. Enjoy.

24TH AUGUST
Coupla rumours regarding possible future projects... 1) JP has been mentioned as being involved with a Florence Nightingale biopic, starring Kate Winslet as the titular nurse and Joaquin as her lover; director to be Oliver Parker of An Ideal Husband. 2) A WWII movie focussing on the war in the Philippines, also starring Ethan Hawke, Benjamin Bratt, Philippino actor Cesar Montano, and possibly Michelle Pfeiffer; the movie — called The Great Raid — to be shot in Shanghai and Australia's Gold Coast. That's all for now, and thanks to Sarahvma for the info.

23RD AUGUST
The competition is here, folks. If you live in the US or Canada and want to win yourself a copy of the official Signs soundtrack, then click here now! My apologies to anyone outside of those countries — if I had it my way, the contest would be open to you all :(

22ND AUGUST
Picture and article from the April 2001 issue of Vanity Fair. Thank you to Sarah for sending those.

21ST AUGUST
Going Around In Circles, a behind-the-scenes of Signs article from Film Review, including interviews with Mel Gibson, M Night Shyamalan, and Joaquin Phoenix. Also, happy birthday to my mother. *mwah*

16TH AUGUST (EVEN LATER STILL...)
Interview that Joaquin did for the online kids' magazine at PETA.org in 2001: Joaquin Phoenix Battles Animal Abuse. Includes a cover shot of His Lovely Vegan-ness. Also, I was flipping through my old Empire magazines and found The A-List, a preview of films expected to reap big box-office dollars in 2002. Guess what's in there?...

SPECIAL NEWS! SPECIAL NEWS!
First off, let's say that Buffalo Soldiers seems to finally have a release date, or rather a premiere date. Anyone in New York or Los Angeles, start clearing your diaries, because on March 28, 2003, Buffalo Soldiers is coming to you. And we want pictures. BUT, fret not because for once the Britishers appear to have the upper hand because if you live in the UK you can enter a competition to see a preview screening of Buffalo Soldiers at FilmFour in London on September 06, 2002. So if you're from the UK and can get to London on that day, get yourself over to the FilmFour website RIGHT NOW and register yourself, then send an email to this address: competition@filmfour.com. Put the word Buffalo in the subject line, then plonk down your name, address, phone number and age and send it off post-haste! Closing date is August 31, so hurry the f*** up!

16TH AUGUST
Article from Empire's February 2002 issue about the 50 Must-See Movies Of 2002, citing both Signs and Buffalo Soldiers as ones to watch. New image of JP looking mean with a big gun, and a couple of on-set shots from Buffalo Soldiers, showing Joaq having bonding moments with Ed Harris and Gregor Jordan: find all those pictures here. Also, another new article, Altman Plugs Into Voltage, giving a little more detail on the film. Sarahvma has found an interesting report from the press conference of It's All About Love in June 2001, published in Danish newspaper Politiken, a German report (translated by Nina Laurence), and a little article claiming that Joaquin Phoenix Dreams Of Being Superboy. Villains are more fun, apparently. We've also had a donation of three excellent wallpapers from Lindsey, and one from Heather. Look, use, be awed, and remember to give praise to their creators. Email Heather or Lindsey to tell them how great they are. If anyone else has anything in the way of fan art, fanfiction, wallpapers or other creative stuff they want put up on the site, there will soon be a fan section for this, so please send them in: submissions[at]joaquin-phoenix.net. Please note: JPITF will only accept fanfiction concerning Joaquin's characters, and not stories pertaining to Joaquin himself.

15TH AUGUST
New affiliate up: Stand By Me, mostly dedicated to River Phoenix. New stuff from Sarahvma: small picture from It's All About Love, another pic from Buffalo Soldiers, two new reviews of Buffalo Soldiers (review #1 / review #2), an article from Canadian publication Tribute (Star Chat: A Conversation With Joaquin Phoenix), an extended synopsis for Buffalo Soldiers, a cute photo of JP and Thomas Vinterberg on set of It's All About Love, random miscellaneous article from when IAAL was filming in Denmark, and finally an interview with JP during Cannes 2001. Whew. Also, if anyone's interested, I got my A-Level results today and managed to somehow get three A's. Am happy.

14TH AUGUST (LATER THAT DAY)
A couple new pics from Buffalo Soldiers, more new pics from Signs, a short article from 2000 (Camera More Comfy Than Public Eye), and a little snippet about JP called Dirty-Minded. Joaq, a secret porn genius. Who knew? Thanks to Sarahvma for all of the above. In other news, there's a new website in the links section: check out Andarta's Joaquin Phoenix Site.
