Liv & Joaquin Kaput?
Mr. Showbiz, October 21, 1998

Has one of Hollywood's sturdiest young couples finally decided to call it quits? The New York Daily News reports that longtime honeys Liv Tyler, 19, and Joaquin Phoenix, 23, "are on the outs." The twosome, who fell in love on the set of the 1997 film Inventing the Abbotts, recently broke up, a friend tells the paper. "They still care a lot for each other but just couldn't work it out," the helpful pal says. Word is Liv has taken a shine to a member of the band Spacehog. Mouthpieces for both Tyler, last seen emoting in Armageddon, and Phoenix, currently starring in Clay Pigeons, are keeping mum on the state of the relationship. But, as always, keep in mind that the couple has been dogged by similar rumors in the past, and they were very much together at the Clay Pigeons premiere in September, dancing cheek to cheek. "I fell in love the second I saw him," Liv has said of Phoenix. "What I felt," Phoenix has said, "was that I have a new friend, a really great friend."
