Joaquin Phoenix Dreams Of Being Superboy
Ananova, 11 July 2001

Joaquin Phoenix has been kept awake by dreams that he suddenly transforms himself into Superboy. The Gladiator villain couldn't get any sleep while on location in Germany on his new movie Buffalo Soldiers. Phoenix said he was baffled by the dreams.

The 26-year-old American actor told Ananova: "Some guys dream of being Marlon Brando or Steven Spielberg, but I turned up on this television talk show actually dressed as Superboy, which is just weird. I actually flew on to the set from wires suspending me from the ceiling. I mean, this is plain dumb. I never see myself as anything like 'super'. Far from it."

In Buffalo Soldiers, Phoenix plays a corrupt GI who's always on the lookout to make a financial killing through drugs or black market booze. He falls for co-star Anna Paquin, much to the distress of her father, a tough army sergeant played by Scott Glen.

Phoenix said: "I don't know why I always get to play these guys who have few redeeming features. But don't knock it. Villains are much more fun."
