Joaquin Phoenix Still Sickened By Exploitation Of Brother's Death Joaquin Phoenix is still upset at how the death of his brother was exploited. River Phoenix collapsed outside a nightclub in Los Angeles seven years ago. His younger brother Joaquin was by his side as he died. He said he was the most important influence on his life. River Phoenix appeared in Stand By Me and My Own Private Idaho. "He was so talented, so brilliant," said Joaquin. "To this day all I feel is sick over the way people reacted to his death. How guys could come along and exploit that situation is way beyond me. "They took his picture while he was in his coffin and made teenage girls throw themselves at his grave. It was so hard to see that happening." Joaquin starred in Gladiator and The Yards. He plays a tormented priest who ends up making love to a corpse in the new movie Quills. Geoffrey Rush and Kate Winslet also star in the movie. It is tipped as a possible Oscar winner and will be released in the UK on January 19. Joaquin joked: "This is one movie I did not take home with me. I have done some strange things but it doesn't get stranger than this." |
