Why am I looking at questions? I want the messageboard!
This is the FAQ, to answer queries about using the board. If you look over there to the bottom left you should see links to
the various sections of the messageboard. If you've somehow managed to get yourself tangled up, you can use the following
links to register,
log in, or simply
browse the messageboard.

How do I register? Do I have to?
Registration is not required unless you want to post messages, so it's probably a good idea if you want to participate in any
discussions. Registration is free, quick and easy, and you don't have to supply your real name. All you need is a valid email
address and an active imagination. Go here
to register, follow the simple instructions, and in future you will be able to log in from the messageboard menu bar on
the left there.

How do I post a new topic / reply to an existing topic?
Once you're in the correct forum, click on the New Topic icon, located at the top and bottom of the page. This will take you to a
page where you can enter your message and subject title. When you are finished, you can preview your topic by checking the preview
box next to the Submit button. To post a reply to an existing topic, click on the Post Reply button and follow the same procedure.
[back to questions]
What are emoticons and how can I use them?
Emoticons, or smilies, are a way of conveying what you just can't express with simple words. Use the little faces to brighten up
your posts, but please keep them sensible. Repetitive use of emoticons (ie, a line of smilies unrelated to your text) will
result in that post being edited or possibly deleted. When you decide to post and have clicked on New Topic or Post Reply,
you will be able to see a list of emoticons and how to insert them by clicking on the Use Emoticons link on the left of
the comments box.
[back to questions]
Can I use HTML / bbcodes in my post?
HTML is disabled on the messageboard. You can use bbcodes, which are similar to HTML but easier to use, and offer most of
the basic functions you will need with less room for error. Even so, please be very careful, since code that interferes
with the layout of the messageboard will be deleted, and if you have made substantial errors, the admin or moderator may
have to edit or delete your post. Please also take care to limit your use of images. To minimise loading time it is
recommended that you use only small images, and then only when it is absolutely necessary. For a list of bbcodes, please
see this tutorial.

What are user titles?
Each user has a user title that reflects his or her "rank" on the messageboard. The owner is known as The Big Tofu.
Moderators have their own custom names. Some members are given special titles by the admin. All other users are given
their titles based on the number of posts they have made:
| Posts |
Title |
| 0 |
Newbie |
| 20 |
JP Fan |
| 50 |
JP Lover |
| 100 |
JP Obsessive |
[back to questions]
What are moderators?
Moderators control individual forums, because the administrator is too lazy to do it herself. Moderators have the power
to edit, delete or prune any posts in their forums. To become a moderator you must be a JP fan who respects the man's
work and privacy. You must also be able to spell and form coherent sentences. Sweeties sent to the admin staff don't go
amiss, either ;) Current mods of the messageboard are Bernice7, Dana, HollyNichole, Sway
(primarily responsible for fan works, especially fiction), and Laurenxx (responsible for Keepers).
[back to questions]
How can I change my user profile?
You can change any of the information in your profile by clicking on the Profile link located near the
top of each page. You must be logged in to update your profile.
[back to questions]
Can I use a signature?
You may use a signature (commonly used in email messages) on your posts. You may set your signature in your member profile.
Once you have a signature stored, you can choose to include it with any post you make by checking the "include signature"
box when you create your post. This messageboard's administrator may elect to turn the signature feature off at any time,
however. If that is the case, the "include signature" option will not appear when you post a note, even if you have stored
a signature. You may change your signature at any time by changing your profile.
[back to questions]
Can I attach files to posts?
Technically-speaking, yes you can attach files, but we would ask that you refrain from doing so out of concern for loading
time (in the case of images) and for security reasons. However, you may cut and paste text into your post, and links to
outside documents are welcome. If you wish to attach a file that you have no other way of linking to, you must contact the
administrator or moderator beforehand for permission. Any unauthorised attachments will be deleted.
[back to questions]
Can I search?
You may search for specific posts based on a word or words found in the posts, by a particular registered member, by date,
and/or by forum. Just click on the "search" link at the top of most pages.
[back to questions]
Can I edit my own posts?
Yes, you can, but remember that the admin and moderators can also edit what you post if there is a good reason for doing
so. No one else can change your message.
[back to questions]
Can I be notified by email if someone responds to my topic?
If you create a new topic, you have the option of receiving an email notification every time someone posts a reply to your
topic. Just check the email notification box when creating a new topic, if you want to use this feature.
[back to questions]
How can I report an inappropriate post or a problem with another user?
If you see a post that you believe requires immediate attention from a moderator or the administrator, please send an
email to messages[at]joaquin-phoenix[dot]net or send a personal message to a moderator's inbox. In your message
please include the forum on which you found the post, the poster's username, the title of the topic, and the specific
grievances you have. We will try to sort out the problem as quickly and fairly as possible.
[back to questions]
What if I forget my username/password?
If you've forgotten your password, click here
to retrieve it. Just type in your username and click the Go button. Your password will then be emailed to the address you
have supplied for you account. If you have forgotten both your username and password, you will have to create a new account.
[back to questions]
How do I make a Keeper claim?
You must register to become a Keeper. If you're not registered, find out how. If you are
registered, open up the messageboard,
go to the Keepers section, read the Rules and post a claim under the Requests thread.
