No telling how many nights he cried
In that prison before he died.
I'll tell you the tale of Lewis McBride
Who was killed without reason, despite all who tried.

A carefree lover of life was he
And loved by all that him did meet
He was known for hugging a tree
and helping animals live life complete.

His friends did betray him one day
And much to his own dismay
Was thrown into prison to decay
While his life slipped away.

And he waited, with countless tears
For what seemed more than just two years
For his friends to pick up their ears
And take him from such vulgar fears.

Until one day while he was praying
God heard his prayer, instead of staying
His friends left their homes, while he was laying
In his bed, his body shaking.

While one left, the other remained
And faced his sentence, being brave
And was jailed, rather than caned,
In an animal pen not fit for a slave.

Until one morning he heard such a cry
And knew it was Lewis, about to die
For a woman from the press did try
To help Lewis escape the hangman's eye.

He was dragged as he screamed
Worse than he had ever dreamed
To that platform where he careened
to death as they ignored his pleas.

But he would not let Lewis die alone
By himself, his sins to atone
He yelled to Lewis to let him know
His friend was there, though his face didn't show.

But no one could save him, try as they may
In Penang, Malaysia, so far away.
Now for six months his friend must stay
With the memory of Lewis that won't go away.
